Saturday Wine Experiences at The Wine Shack


Each Saturday in October, the Wine Shack hosts a pre-dinner wine tasting experience with a premium line-up of wines that will expand your knowledge of wines and wine regions. These programs are limited to only 20 participants. Price: $50 (Includes a Savor Cannon Beach souvenir wine glass).

Sat. Oct. 1 | Savor Northwest Wines of the Year for 2022 | 5:30-6:45pm
This wine tasting includes the top six wines from the 2022 Savor Northwest Wine Awards. On the third day of judging in the blind competition, judges tasted all of the Best of Class wines side-by-side to select the Red and White Wines of the Year, along with the best rose, best sparkling wine, best dessert wine and the top scoring full-bodied red wine. You'll taste them all and you can choose your own Wine of the Year or guess what wine the judges selected for that honor. Price: $50 (Includes a Savor Cannon Beach souvenir wine glass). Sat. Oct. 8 | The Pinot Noir Challenge | 5:30-6:45pm
Can you tell the difference between a world class Pinot Noir and a $20 bottle? In this event, participants will blind taste six outstanding Pinot Noirs including three Oregon Pinots that were selected among Wine Spectators Top 100 Wines of the Year, a Premier Cru French Burgundy and a Gold Medal winning Oregon Pinot that retails for under $20. Sat. Oct. 15 | Six Great Food Wines and Why They Work | 5:30-6:45pm
In this educational program, you'll taste six of the worlds best food wines and learn why they make such great pairings for foods ranging from seafood and steak to curries and cream sauces. No food is served at this event, but you'll be ready to design your own tasting menu after this experience. Wines will include four Savor Northwest Wines of the Year for 2022. Sat. Oct. 22 | Old World Reds Versus Northwest Reds | 5:30-6:45pm
Can you tell an Old-World wine from wines of the Northwest? In this program, you will blind taste three pairs of wines including a French wine and its Northwest equivalent including wines of Bordeaux, Rhone and Burgundy. This is a great program for discussion of terroir and winemaking styles. Price: $50 (Includes a Savor Cannon Beach souvenir wine glass). Location: The Wine Shack (124 N. Hemlock).

Sat. Oct. 29 | Six-Year Vertical of Willamette Valley Pinot Noir | 5:30-6:45pm
This vertical tasting of six vintages of Willamette Valley Pinot Noir from different producers will provide insight into the growing seasons' impact on wine styles and the age-ability of Oregon Pinot Noir. You'll taste wines from the 2014 through 2019 vintages and learn about the growing conditions of each year. Featured wines include two wines that were named to Wine Spectator's Top 100 Wines of the Year, a Wine Spectator 94-point wine and Savor Northwest Gold Medal winning wines. Fri. Sept. 30 | Lesser-Known Varietals Grown in the Northwest | 5:30-6:45pm
Here's a chance to taste and learn about some of the lesser-known wine varietals grown in the Northwest. You'll taste six lesser-known varietals from the Northwest that each won a Gold Medal at the 2022 Savor Northwest Wine Awards. The lineup includes two white wines including a Southern Oregon Gruner Veltliner and Siegerrebe, a cool-climate varietal from Western British Columbia. Red wines include a Counoise from Yakima Valley's Rattlesnake Hills, a Teroldego from Oregons Rogue Valley, a Barbera from Washington's Horse Heaven Hills and a Dolcetto from Walla Walla Valley. White wines include a stunning version of an Oregon Pinot Gris that went on to be named Wine of the Year and a Willamette Valley Sauvignon Blanc. Red wines include an Oregon Pinot Noir that went on to win Best Red Wine of the Year, and the Best of Class Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec and Syrah. Thurs. Oct. 6 | The Northwest's Best Red Blends for 2022| 4-5pm
In some of the world's most famous wine regions, blending regional wine varietals is just the way wines are made, where different varietals in just the right proportions make better wines than single varietals can offer. In this program, you will taste six different award-winning Northwest red wine blends that are made using both traditional combinations of varietals and some surprising blends unique to the Pacific Northwest. You'll taste top-rated Northwest red wines of different varietals including a Bordeaux-style blend, Malbec, Cabernet Franc, Sangiovese, Syrah and Pinot Noir from the 2012 through 2009 vintages. The tasting will conclude with a tasting of a 20-year-old Northwest ruby port.
